Top 10 android mobiles 2015

10. Samsung Galaxy Alpha
A desirable and balanced phone, the Alpha signalled Samsung's new design
OS: Android 5 | Screen size: 4.7-inch | Resolution: 1280 x 720 | Memory: 2GB | Storage: 32GB | Battery: 1860mAh | Rear camera: 12MP | Front camera: 2.1MP
The Alpha borrows liberally from the Apple design playbook, but it still feels like a notable progression for the Samsung - and it still feels like a Samsung phone. Just a far more classy one.
A manageable 4.7-inch display, slim profile, blazing performance and an accomplished 12-megapixel camera means the Alpha has what it takes to deliver a quality Android experience.
Samsung has stepped up the design again with the Galaxy S6, but if you're looking for a more affordable option which still offers a decent slug of features the Alpha is well worth checking out.

9. Sony Xperia Z3 Compact
A small Android phone packed with big features
OS: Android 5 | Screen size: 4.6-inch | Resolution: 1280 x 720 | Memory: 2GB |Storage: 16GB | Battery: 2600mAh | Rear camera: 20.7MP | Front camera: 2.2MP
Sony has done such a good job of shrinking down the Xperia Z3 into a smaller handset with only a few minor cuts to the specifications that it has, perhaps by accident, created a more desirable phone.
It has the same 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor as the Z3, along with an Adreno 330 GPU and very good 20.7MP camera. The smaller 4.6-inch screen gives the Z3 Compact a better battery life than the full size Z3, as well as being more comfortable to hold. The price has also been cut, making the Z3 Compact a more compelling purchase.
Easily one of the best compact Android phones on the market today. Sony has worked hard to fit some excellent features into this handset despite its smaller stature and it has paid off. This is great work from Sony, and doubly brilliant if you own a PS4 too thanks to the Remote Play feature. But at this point you might be better off waiting for the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact

8. Google Nexus 6
Google's best ever phone is also its biggest ever
OS: Android 5 | Screen size: 5.96-inch | Resolution: 2560 x 1440 | Memory: 3GB | Storage: 32GB/64GB | Battery: 3220mAh | Rear camera: 13MP | Front camera: 2MP
The Google Nexus 6 is a super-sized version of the 2014 Moto X. The phone that everyone expected to be a super-cheap device is now firmly in the 'Hmmm... I wonder how much can I get for my kidney?' category - but that's thanks to the high-end chipset, the crisply sharp QHD screen and a massive battery.
At six inches, this is very, very much a phablet - but then again, it offers so much that you'll really start to warm to it quickly. Plus the edge-to-edge design means it's nowhere near as large as it should be - if you can get over the price, it's a must have.
There's a lot to like about Nexus 6. Android Lollipop looks great on this bright, 6-inch AMOLED display and the 13-megapixel camera is more true-to-life than 2013's Nexus 5 and Motorola's other smartphones combined, even if it doesn't quite measure up to what Samsung's doing.
With the possible exception of the new Nexus 6P this is the best Nexus Google has ever crafted. And, when you think about it, you're not going to need to hold onto your money, as you'll require both hands to grab onto this two-handed monster.

7. OnePlus 2
A bargain handset of flagship proportions
OS: Android 5 | Screen size: 5.5-inch | Resolution: 1080 x 1920 | Memory: 3GB/4GB | Storage: 16GB/64GB | Battery: 3300mAh | Rear camera: 13MP | Front camera: 5MP
The OnePlus 2 proves that the OnePlus One was more just beginner's luck, as with high-end specs and an impressively low price it's just as hard to resist as the first one was.
If the big and bright 5.5-inch 1080p display doesn't get your attention the powerful Snapdragon 810 processor and up to 4GB of RAM probably will.
It's a fairly stylish handset too, especially if you shell out a little extra for a wooden back and with a fingerprint scanner and even USB Type-C included it offers far more than you could ever expect for the money.
There are some compromises. There's no NFC or fast charging for example and the camera is hardly market-leading, so if money is no object something like the Samsung Galaxy S6 would make for a better all-round phone, but there are few handsets around which are as good value as this.

6. HTC One M9
Not quite 5 star standard, but HTC still has the most beautiful phone around
OS: Android 5 | Screen size: 5-inch | Resolution: 1920x1080 | Memory: 3GB |Storage: 32GB | Battery: 2840mAh | Rear camera: 20.7MP | Front camera: 4MP
For all the work Samsung's done on improving the design of its flagship HTC still has it beat. The One M9 is easily the best looking Android phone around and arguably the best looking handset running any OS.
Not only does it look incredible but it's got lots of power and a decent 20.7MP camera on the back, with its UltraPixel snapper relegated to selfie duties. Plus its slick Sense interface and impressive BoomSound audio make it a joy to use.
The HTC One M9 isn't a big upgrade over the One M8, but that phone was our favourite for a long time so any improvements guaranteed this a place near the top of our chart. Compared to the Galaxy S6 and LG G4 this feels lacking in specs and features, but it's as close to a work of art as a phone has come.

5. Sony Xperia Z3+
It lacks wow factor, but the Sony Xperia Z3+ is a well thought out smartphone
OS: Android 5 | Screen size: 5.2-inch | Resolution: 1920x1080 | Memory: 3GB |Storage: 32GB | Battery: 2930mAh | Rear camera: 20.7MP | Front camera: 5.1MP
The Sony Xperia Z5 is just around the corner, but until that hits stores the Sony Xperia Z3+ is still the latest and greatest Sony flagship money can buy.
There's a sense that Sony has played it safe here, as not a huge amount has changed since the Sony Xperia Z3, but what you get is still a top tier handset, with bundles of power, a sleek water resistant build and a good camera.
A price tag that's a little lower than much of the competition doesn't hurt either and PS4 Remote Play makes it a strong buy for any gamers.
If you want more substantial changes, like the addition of a fingerprint scanner or a 4K screen, you're better off waiting for the Sony Xperia Z5 or Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, but most of what the Xperia Z3+ does it does well.

4. Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+
Big, powerful and stylish, this phone has it all, except good battery life
OS: Android 5 | Screen size: 5.7-inch | Resolution: 1440x2560 | Memory: 4GB |Storage: 32GB/64GB | Battery: 3000mAh | Rear camera: 16MP | Front camera: 5MP
If you loved the idea of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge but wished it was a little bigger the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ is for you.
It's almost the same phone, with that dual-curved display still the star of the show and yet still a little bit pointless, though undeniably good looking.
But curves aside it's a top notch QHD screen and if anything it's even better for being stretched out to 5.7 inches.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ also has a brilliant 16MP snapper, a speedy fingerprint scanner and oodles of power, packing in an octa-core Exynos 7420 processor and pumping the RAM up to 4GB, from 3GB on the standard S6 Edge.
Sadly this phablet version still suffers its compact companion's main issue, namely battery life, which at no more than a day really doesn't cut it for a flagship, despite the inclusion of both fast and wireless charging. That holds it back, but in most other ways this is easily the best phablet money can buy.

3. LG G4
An Android phone that's all about its camera and a strange look
OS: Android 5.1 | Screen size: 5.5-inch | Resolution: 2560 x 1440 | Memory: 3GB | Storage: 32GB | Battery: removable 3000mAh | Rear camera: 16MP | Front camera: 8MP
The LG G4 has one of the best screens around, a unique design and a strong camera which gives it a great foundation at the top of the mobile market.
The curved chassis might be thick, but it doesn't feel too overbearing in the hand, and battery life still isn't great - but that's a common theme across most of the top-end handsets today.
It's stuffed full of features, the removable battery will be a real plus point for many, and the G4 certainly stands out in a crowd of metal and glass covered smartphones.

2. Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge
Curving into the future with impressive specs
OS: Android 5 | Screen size: 5.1-inch | Resolution: 1440 x 2560 | Memory: 3GB | Storage: 32GB/64GB/128GB | Battery: 2560mAh | Rear camera: 16MP | Front camera: 5MP
If money is no object then the Galaxy S6 Edge arguably has the standard S6 beat, as it offers the same compelling specs with the addition of an eye-catching curved display. But for most people money is an object and the S6 Edge is both more expensive and not much better in use, as the curves are more about form than function.
Still, its 5.1-inch QHD screen is glorious, its 16MP camera impresses and it's got a powerful octa-core processor and all the nifty features of the S6, like a fingerprint scanner and fast charging.
The curved screen feels like a missed opportunity but it's undeniably stylish and if you can stomach the price tag this is a powerful, futuristic phone which is sure to inspire admiration and jealousy in everyone who sees it.

1. Samsung Galaxy S6
A brilliant phone that shows Samsung still has what it takes
OS: Android 5 | Screen size: 5.1-inch | Resolution: 1440 x 2560 | Memory: 3GB | Storage: 32GB/64GB/128GB | Battery: 2550mAh | Rear camera: 16MP | Front camera: 5MP
After the disappointing Galaxy S5 Samsung has turned it all around with the Galaxy S6. That's obvious as soon as you set eyes on it, with its luxurious metal and glass build and brilliantly impressive 5.1-inch QHD screen.
It's got an incredible camera too and even the TouchWiz overlay, something which is traditionally bloated and clunky, has been polished into something far slicker.
Packed full of extras like fast charging and a fingerprint scanner, the Samsung Galaxy S6 really is the complete package and its octa-core Exynos processor leaves rivals in the dust. All that power is hard on the battery, but otherwise this is a near perfect phone.
Power, performance, a premium design and heaps of extras, the Samsung Galaxy S6 has it all. It's not cheap and the average battery and lack of a microSD card slot might put you off, but in most other ways this is the best Android phone we've ever used.
